Dry and chapped lips, cracked lip corners - what to do?

Lūpu balzams sausām un sasprēgājušām lūpām

Dry, chapped lips and corners of the lips are something that most people experience from time to time.

Chapped lips and cracked corners of lips can be treated at home, unless there are more serious reasons for which you should check your health.

The most common causes of dry lips are the weather, excessive lip licking, or medication. The most common symptoms of dry lips are dry lips, scaling, ulcers, swelling, cracking, bleeding.

What causes chapped lips?  Lips do not contain oil glands like other parts of the skin. Because of this, the lips are more sensitive to dryness and cracking. Lack of moisture can worsen the condition, whether it is caused by the weather or due to insufficient care.

It is known that during the winter months, low humidity causes chapped lips. Frequent exposure to the sun in summer can also worsen the condition of the lips. Another common cause of chapped lips is constant licking. Saliva from the tongue can further strip the lips of moisture, resulting in even very dry lips.

What to do if you have dry lips

If you have dry lips, the first step is to make sure your lips have enough moisture. This can be done by:

- lip balm with beeswax, plants extracts and vitamins (Calendula, vitamin E), applying it throughout the day,

- drinking more water,

- using a humidifier at home,

- avoiding cold weather or covering the mouth with a scarf.

How to heal cracked lip corners? Recommendations:
- Apply ice or a cool compress to the corners of your mouth.
- Avoid skin irritants like harsh toothpastes, mouthwashes and spicy foods.
- Stay out of the sun and extreme cold or wind.
- Use natural ointments or lip balm to keep the corners of your mouth moisturized.

MARUSHA Marigold Lip Balm

In case of dry and chapped lips, apply a non-irritating lip balm (or lip moisturizer) several times a day and before bed.

Sun exposure, especially with age, can also cause chapped lips. Before going outside, apply a lip balm with an SPF of at least 15.  Lip balm is a natural lip moisturizer for dry lips, while sunscreen will reduce further drying. In addition, studies have also proven that Rosehip oil also helps against cracking of the corners of the lips.

Lip balm with calendula and various butters helps the healing process and acts as natural vitamins for dry lips.

Lip balm with a diverse composition and calendula is an excellent solution. Balms contain a variety of butters and oils as well as plant macerates that aid in the healing process and act as natural vitamins for both dry lips and chapped corners.

The brand MARUSHA Marigold Lip Balm  is a lip care product containing various vitamins, which contains Marigold, beeswax, as well as several types of butters (cocoa, mango, shea butter), natural oils, Carrot oil and vitamin E.

Calendula has an anti-inflammatory effect, it is used to heal wounds, burns, hard-to-heal ulcers. Randomized clinical trials demonstrate the beneficial effects of Calendula extract on wound healing. Calendula extract soothes irritated skin, promotes healing and reduces redness.

Carrot oil contains carotenoids (provitamin A), it is a natural antioxidant and vitamin, protects against moisture loss, therefore it is especially recommended before contact with the sun, for dry lips and the corners of the lips. As Carrot Oil is rich in vitamin A, it intensely nourishes and regenerates, helps restore skin elasticity.

Dry and chapped lips, as well as cracked corners of the mouth, can be effectively treated with proper care and the right product choice. MARUSHA Lip balm with calendula extract and carrot oil provides a natural, gentle, and effective solution that helps restore lip moisture, improve elasticity, and maintain a healthy appearance.

Our advice: Most of the time, the above self-care with lip balm can heal dry, chapped lips in 2 to 3 weeks. If it doesn’t, see a board - certified dermatologist.
